Today is my 39th Birthday.
I have never worried about turning 40 before, but somehow after the year we have had, 40 feels like a huge milestone, both good and bad. But, I guess I have a whole year to worry about turning 40!
Last year, Harry just made it home from the hospital for my birthday - he had been in for a few days for a blood transfusion and a bout of febrile nutropenia (fancy word for fever due to very low white blood cell counts, one of the many fancy terms we learned last year), in his recovery phase from his third round of chemotherapy.
Gareth and Kathleen came by with a lovely chocolate cake to help us celebrate.
Lydia made me stay in bed an extra ten minutes this morning so she could put my presents on the dining room table for me, just like I do for her. She made me a lovely picture / card, which she even wrote "Happy Birthday Mummy" and signed it from her, Daddy and Harry. She also made me a paper bracelet. What a sweetie. What would I ever do without her, she brings such pure joy to our lives.
Henry has ordered me a cake this year, a first! Some family and friends will drop by this evening to join us for cake.
I know our angel Harry is going to be right here with us. Wishing me a happy birthday too.

- We are Harry's aunt and uncle and we live just around the corner from Harry's Mom and Dad and his big sister Lydia in Wolseley, a neighbourhood in Winnipeg. At the end of February, when Harry was just ten months old, doctors at the Children's Hospital here in Winnipeg discovered that he had an exceptionally rare form of liver cancer, specifically a Rhabdoid tumour that had metastasized into his lungs and lymph nodes. This blog has tracked Harry's valiant and joy-filled journey from the time he was diagnosed until his gentle passing from this life on August 3rd. We continue to remember and celebrate Harry with occasional messages from his family and reports on the memorial fund set up in his name. We continue to invite you to engage with Harry's legacy by posting messages here.

hi cynthia, happy birthday! incidently, today is my 29th birthday...and knowing it was your birthday as well, i checked the blog to see how your family was doing. just wanted to let you know that i often think of you, henry, lydia and harry...but especially you because we share the same role - mom to a spirited pre-schooler and mom to joyful toddler. my youngest, madeleine, will be 2 this august...when i look at her i often think of harry and then i hug her tight and give thanks(even in her extreme fits...that she has inherited from her sister) i learned to do this from you. thanks. hope you enjoy your day!
